Blackboard is made by a small team, so replies usually arrive within two business days. Including your phone model, OS version and the app version makes a fix much faster.
What Blackboard does
Blackboard is a shared board for the people you live or travel with. It brings everyone's day, a shared calendar, lists and chores, and a household budget into one place, and keeps it in sync between iPhone and Android.
Getting started
- Sign in with Apple, Google or email, then Create a household or trip, or Join one with an invite code.
- When you create a household, pick who it's for: Family, Housemates or Trip. Each starts with the right features switched on.
- Just looking? Choose Try a demo on the welcome screen to explore a demo flat or trip without an account.
Households and invites
How do I invite someone?
Open Settings and share the household's invite code. Codes work for 7 days; tap New invite code to make another.
I entered a code but I'm not in yet
An admin needs to let you in. They'll see "your name wants to join" on the board. If they already added you by name, they can match you to that name so your expenses stay with you.
Can I be in more than one household?
Yes. Tap the household name at the top of the board to switch, add another, or leave one. Trips that have ended move to a Past trips section.
Something I changed isn't showing on another phone
Changes made offline sync when you're back online. Check both phones are connected and on the latest version of the app. Some features, like trips with several stays, need everyone on a recent build.
How do I switch features on or off?
Admins can go to Settings → What this household uses to turn Calendar, Chores, Ideas, who's cooking or Budget on and off. Nothing is deleted when you switch something off.
Budget and PayNow
How do splits work?
When you add an expense, share it Equally, By % or by Exact amounts. Percentages must add up to 100% and amounts to the total. Tap any balance to see how it adds up.
I marked a payment as paid but it isn't counted
Payments count once the other person taps Got it. Until then they show as waiting. If they tap Didn't get it, you can fix or delete the payment. Admins can also record a payment made outside the app, for example in cash.
PayNow QR codes aren't showing
PayNow is off by default. An admin switches it on in Settings, and each person adds their own Singapore (+65) mobile number. Blackboard only creates the QR code; the payment happens in your bank app, and we never see it.
Can I export my spending?
Yes. Go to Budget → See all → Export to save a CSV file for one month or everything. It opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
Trips
Create a trip with Create → Trip, set its dates, currencies and who's coming. Add stays with their own dates and rooms, plan each day in the itinerary, and add expenses in any currency for an end-of-trip settle-up.
Your account and data
How do I leave a household?
Tap the household name at the top of the board and choose to leave it. Expenses and payments you added stay in the household's history so balances still add up.
How do I delete a household?
Admins can choose Settings → Delete household name for everyone. Everything in it is removed for everyone and the invite code stops working. This can't be undone.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete my account. If you're the only admin of a shared household, make someone else an admin first. See Delete your account for full details, including how to request deletion by email.
