Blackboard for iPhone and Android · Last updated 15 October 2026

Blackboard stores only what it needs to share a household between phones. There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking across apps or websites, and we never sell or share your data with anyone for marketing. What you add to a household is visible only to the people in that household.

Who we are

Blackboard is developed and published by corporation1, based in Singapore. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean corporation1. You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@corporation1.org.

Using Blackboard without an account

You can try the demo household and demo trip without signing in. Demos, and any household you keep only on your phone, are stored on your device and are never sent to us.

Information we collect

Your account

To share a household between phones you sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. Sign-in options may differ between iPhone and Android. We receive and store:

  • A unique account ID created by our sign-in provider.
  • Your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we only receive Apple's private relay address.
  • The name you use in the app. You type this yourself and can change it.

Passwords for email sign-in are handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). We never see or store your password.

What you add to a household

Everything you put into a shared household or trip is stored on our servers so the other people in it can see it. Depending on which features the household uses, this can include:

  • Household details: its name, type (family, housemates or trip), members' names and who is an admin, and invite codes.
  • The board: your day (for example where you'll be, whether you're home for dinner, cooking or errands), nudges you send, and status tags on trips.
  • Calendar and itinerary: events and plans, who's joining them, and who created or changed them.
  • Lists: groceries, chores and who they're assigned to, ideas and votes.
  • Money: expenses, how they're split, categories, repeating expenses, payments between members, and whether a payment was confirmed.
  • PayNow number: if you add one, it is shared with the members of households where PayNow is switched on, so their phones can show a QR code for paying you. Blackboard never handles the payment itself and never sees your bank account.
  • Trip stays: addresses, check-in and check-out details, wifi details, door codes, rooms and house rules entered by members of the trip.
  • Join requests: when you ask to join a household, the admins see your name.

Information we do not collect

  • No location tracking. Blackboard does not read your phone's location.
  • No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
  • No analytics, advertising identifiers or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No payment card or bank details.

How we use it

We use this information only to run Blackboard: to sign you in, keep your households in sync across phones, show the right things to the right members, and enforce who can change what. We don't use it for advertising, profiling, or to train machine-learning models, and we don't sell it.

Who can see your information

  • Members of the same household or trip can see what's in that household, including your name and anything you add. Admins can approve join requests, remove members and delete the household.
  • No one else. Server-side rules allow a household to be read only by its members.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the app. They process data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

  • Google Firebase: Firebase Authentication for sign-in and Cloud Firestore for household data. Household data is stored in Google's Singapore region (asia-southeast1). See Firebase's privacy information.
  • Apple and Google for Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In, when you choose them.
  • Maps: when a stay's map is shown or you open its address, the address is sent to the map provider (Apple Maps on iPhone, or your maps app on Android) to display it.

Information stored on your phone

Blackboard keeps a copy of your households on your device so it works offline and syncs when you're back online. Your interface theme and demo households are stored only on the device. On iPhone, wifi passwords, addresses and PayNow numbers you copy stay on that phone and are cleared from the clipboard after 5 minutes. A spending export (CSV) is created on your phone and goes wherever you choose to save or share it.

How long we keep it

  • Household data is kept for as long as the household exists. An admin can delete a household for everyone at any time, which removes its board, calendar, lists, expenses and payments.
  • When the last member leaves a household, it is deleted.
  • Your account is kept until you delete it.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app at any time from Settings → Account → Delete my account. This removes you from every shared household and deletes your sign-in. Households where you were the last member are deleted completely. Expenses and payments you recorded in households other people still use stay in that household's history, so everyone else's balances still add up.

Full details, including how to request deletion if you no longer have the app, are on the account deletion page.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers, and stored on Google's infrastructure, which encrypts data at rest. Access rules on the server check that you are a member of a household before letting you read or change it, and that you are an admin before allowing admin-only changes.

Children

Blackboard is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly let children under 13 create an account. In a family household, a parent may add a child's name so chores can be assigned to them; that name is visible only to members of that household. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data we hold about you, and to withdraw consent. You can change your name and most household content directly in the app and delete your account in Settings. For anything else, email privacy@corporation1.org and we'll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date. If a change affects how your data is used in a significant way, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
